*KANO BRIDE SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING 9 DAYS AFTER WEDDING*


A tragic case dey shake Kano this morning 


 

A 19-year-old bride,Saudat Jibrin was on Thursday sentenced to death by hanging by a Kano State High Court for killing her husband just 9 days after their wedding


The court found her guilty of culpable homicide 14 months after her arrest in May 2025.


COURT RULING

Justice Maryam Sabo of the State High Court, Miller Road, delivered the judgment.  

She said the prosecution, led by Barr. Lamido Abba Sorondinki, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. 


Justice Sabo stated that the maximum penalty was necessary to serve as a deterrent.  

However, the court noted that Saudat has the right to appeal within 90 days of the judgment. 


PROSECUTION'S CASE  

According to court records:  

Time: About 9:00 p.m Location: Kumbotso LGA, Kano State Allegation: Saudat allegedly laced her husband Salisu Idris Zobo drink with a harmful substance, then slashed his throat with a knife. 


The prosecution called *2 witnesses* during the 14-month trial. The offence contravenes Section 221(a) of the Penal Code.

  

Defence counsel, Abdulfatah Muhammad, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying his client had shown significant reformation while in custody.
