Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he would have gone to Osun State to help the All Progressives Congress win the governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had wanted the party to win “at all costs.”
Wike stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja. He was reacting to the outcome of the Osun governorship election, which was won by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The minister, who remains a member of the PDP but supports the Tinubu administration, said the APC could have won the election if the President had been determined to secure victory. According to him, “If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do.”
Wike, a former Rivers State governor and member of the PDP’s G5 group, has continued to support President Tinubu despite serving in an APC-led administration. He has maintained that his support for the President does not mean he has abandoned the PDP.
