Bandit's invade kogi school,Abduct principal neco supervisor, student


 Suspected bandits have attacked Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) supervisor and four students while the 2026 NECO examination was in progress. The gunmen reportedly stormed the community on Tuesday afternoon, firing sporadically before invading the school. Witnesses said examination papers were left scattered across classrooms as students and staff fled in panic. The victims were identified as Principal Nyada Daniel, NECO supervisor Solomon Audu and four students, although one of the abducted students has since been rescued.


Residents said the kidnappers later contacted some families, demanding ransom for the release of the remaining victims. Community members noted that the number of abducted students could have been much higher, but only a few candidates were sitting for the Literature in English examination at the time of the attack. They also linked the incident to the security situation in the area, following recent attacks on farmers and rising tensions within the community.


The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the attack and said a joint team of police, soldiers, local vigilantes and hunters has launched a search-and-rescue operation. Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat said security operatives are on the trail of the attackers, while the Commissioner of Police, the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser have visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
