Herbalist Asked me to kill family of 7-suspect


 The prime suspect in the killing of seven members of a family in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kano State, Umar Auwalu, has told the Kano State High Court that he carried out the attack on the instruction of a herbalist. Auwalu, 23, testified before Justice Nasiru Saminu that the herbalist allegedly gave him incense and directed him to continue committing similar crimes. He also claimed his co-defendants were innocent and said he only mentioned their names after being tortured while in police custody.


During Wednesday's hearing, prosecution counsel led by Safiya Yalwati and Zaharaddeen Hamisu Kofar Mata presented the police investigator, Corporal Aliyu Jamilu, while the defence also called witnesses. The court adjourned the matter until July 21 for continuation of the trial.


The case stems from the January 17 killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi, which shocked Kano residents. Police later arrested Auwalu, a nephew of the deceased, alongside two others. The suspects were initially arraigned before a Magistrates' Court before the case was transferred to the High Court, where they face multiple charges, including conspiracy and culpable homicide. While Auwalu admitted partial guilt, the two other defendants pleaded not guilty.
