Nentawe visits kano's lone NDC senator Amid Defection Rumour

 


The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday visited Senator Rufa'i Sani Hanga, the lone Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senator from Kano State, at his Abuja residence, fueling fresh speculation that the lawmaker may soon defect to the ruling party. According to Hanga's media aide, Umar Saminu Mai-Adashi, the meeting was cordial and focused on Nigeria's political landscape, democratic engagement and national development.


The visit comes amid growing signs of discontent from Senator Hanga over his treatment within the NDC. The former Kwankwasiyya stalwart recently complained of being excluded from the party's consensus candidate list, a move that reportedly denied him the chance to retain his senatorial ticket. Earlier this week, an APC delegation led by the party's Kano State Vice Chairman, Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo, also met with the senator and assured him of fair treatment if he joins the party.


Although Senator Hanga has not officiallyannounced his defection, political observers believe the latest meeting strengthens reports of a possible move to the APC. The ruling party is seeking to consolidate its influence in Kano following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's defection, while reports indicate Hanga's Kano Central ticket has already been allocated to Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and the deputy governorship slot previously linked to him has gone to Mustapha Rabi'u Kwankwaso, son of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
