The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed readiness to deepen its partnership with the European Union (EU) to advance digital support for the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.


The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, disclosed this in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, at the EU Mission.


Gen. Nafiu said staff capacity development is critical to delivering the Scheme’s mandate. He added that NYSC is open to partnerships that will improve staff training through seminars, workshops and other capacity-building programmes.


He commended the EU for its continued support for Nigerian youths and its commitment to programmes that promote skills development and economic empowerment.


He explained that the SAED programme was created to tackle graduate unemployment by equipping Corps Members with practical and entrepreneurial skills to become self-reliant and create jobs for others.


According to NYSC Director of Information, Caroline Embu, thousands of Corps Members have benefited from SAED since it started, with many now running successful businesses.


Ambassador Gautier Mignot said the EU works with partners to design and implement development projects across different sectors.
