Power Minister Warns Operators Against Undermining Decentralized Electricity Market
*NEXVIEW TV NEWS*
The Federal Government has urged electricity operators to avoid actions that could destabilise the market.
According to Tegbe, the Federal Government will continue to play an important leadership role, while state governments now have expanded responsibilities. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, will continue to regulate areas within its jurisdiction, and state regulators are emerging to supervise their respective markets.
He explained that transmission remains a national asset, distribution companies continue to serve millions of customers, generation companies supply energy into the grid, private investors provide capital, development partners give technical support, and consumers remain at the heart of every decision.
He said the Electricity Act did not create parallel electricity industries, but complementary electricity markets operating within one national framework.
The FG stressed that the objective must be regulatory coherence. Investors should not face conflicting rules, developers should not go through contradictory approval processes, and consumers should not suffer from institutional uncertainty. Market participants should enjoy clarity, predictability and confidence wherever they choose to invest.
