16 Benue Villagers Killed By Attackers Buried Amid Tears

Sixteen residents of Efeyi community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, killed by armed attackers on July 28, have been buried in a mass funeral amid tears and grief. The victims were killed when the attackers invaded the community around 5am and opened fire on residents.


The mass burial, held on Saturday, was attended by family members, community leaders, traditional rulers, politicians and religious leaders, who struggled to contain their emotions as the victims were laid to rest in graves dug side by side. A resident, Ogboji Aboje, described the funeral as one of the saddest moments in the history of the community.


A Catholic priest offered prayers for the deceased before their bodies, placed in white caskets, were lowered into the graves. Community members prayed for the souls of the victims and expressed grief over the attack, which has left residents mourning the loss of their loved ones.
