 *FG ORDERS VARSITIES TO EXPEL STUDENTS INVOLVED IN KIDNAPPING*


The Federal Government has directed all vice chancellors, rectors and provosts across Nigeria to dismiss any student found guilty of involvement in kidnapping and other serious crimes. 


Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa gave the order on Monday during a meeting with the management of Federal University Lafia in Abuja. He said the decision followed reports that some students were allegedly taking part in kidnapping activities outside their campuses. According to him, schools must not be used as hiding places for criminal elements. “If we tolerate bad behaviour for too long, it becomes a culture. Any student found culpable of planning or carrying out kidnapping has no place in our tertiary institutions. Such persons must be dismissed,” the Minister stated.


Alausa also instructed school authorities to strengthen their internal security and work closely with the DSS and other agencies to protect students and staff. He revealed that the government will support schools through TETFund’s 2027 intervention by funding projects like perimeter fencing and other security infrastructure. The Minister further reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s stance that no government institution should negotiate with or pay ransom to kidnappers. He added that plans are underway to improve electricity in schools through the Energising Education Programme using solar power. The Pro-Chancellor of FULafia, Lola Akande, confirmed that some students from the university were suspected to be involved in off-campus kidnapping.
