*Military Rescues 384 Kidnapped Victims In One Week, Commended By CDS*

*Abuja* – Nigerian troops recorded significant progress between July 31 and August 6, 2026, with the rescue of 384 kidnapped victims across multiple theatres of operation. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised the Armed Forces for their discipline, professionalism and dedication to safeguarding citizens.


The bulk of the rescues happened on August 5. A total of 308 victims were freed in Kwara and Niger states. In Niger, 145 people abducted during attacks on rural communities in February 2026 were rescued. In Kwara, 163 civilians, mostly women and children, kidnapped when terrorists invaded Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA the same month, also regained freedom. 


Other operations led to the rescue of a teenage girl held since November 2025 in Dogoba Kopre, Askira Uba LGA, Borno State. She has since been reunited with her family after treatment. Two women and two children abducted near Amuda Bridge in Gwoza LGA since 2023 were also freed and handed over to the community head of Ngoshe. Troops further arrested 49 terrorists and criminal elements, neutralised scores, and recovered weapons. In Kaduna, 21 suspects were intercepted in Giwa LGA, with 5 confirmed terrorists handed to the DSS.


The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma also struck on August 6, targeting terrorist gatherings in Kampani Bobi and Beri Settlement, Mariga LGA, Niger State. A precision air strike neutralised scores of terrorists and destroyed about 15 motorcycles along with logistics. Battle Damage Assessment confirmed heavy losses to the group.
