*Fagge, Kano* – A residential building measuring about 20 by 30 feet collapsed in the early hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, in Fagge Local Government Area. The Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call around 4:32 a.m. from staff member Aminu Sani Warure, and firefighters from the headquarters were immediately mobilized to the scene.

Rescue teams recovered 16 people from the rubble. Among them were three children found unconscious: Affan Yusuf, 5; Hassana Yusuf, 7; and Ummulkursum Yusuf, 9 months. All victims were rushed to hospital for treatment. The Fire Service confirmed that operations are still ongoing as more people are feared trapped under the debris.

Saminu Abdullahi, the Fire Service spokesperson, said the cause of the collapse has not been determined and investigations have commenced. He urged residents to observe safety precautions, especially during the rainy season, to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident comes less than a month after a three-storey building under construction in Nasarawa LGA collapsed, killing one person and injuring three others. Authorities say building safety and enforcement remain a growing concern in Kano.
