Shettima Begins 2-Week Leave

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave beginning Thursday, August 6, 2026, marking his first official leave since assuming office in May 2023. According to a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will use the period for study and reflection aimed at strengthening his capacity for continued service.


The statement noted that the leave will provide Shettima with an opportunity to review the administration's ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for future responsibilities as the Federal Government intensifies the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda. It also highlighted his role in coordinating key government initiatives, including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.


The Vice President has also represented President Bola Tinubu at major international and regional engagements, promoting Nigeria's interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development. He is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave with renewed focus and commitment to serving the nation.

The clash occurred around the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday. Residents said the bandits, numbering about 240 and travelling on over 200 motorcycles, moved from Sangeko Gap in Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State before entering Kebbi.
