We Slept In Open Space For 6 Months – Rescued Abductee

One hundred and forty-five abductees rescued from Woro in Kwara State have recounted the harsh conditions they endured during more than six months in terrorist captivity. One of the victims, Fatima Mohammed, said they spent six months and two weeks sleeping in the open without shelter, even during heavy rainfall. She said they had no spare clothes, little food, and were denied freedom of movement, describing her rescue as a joyful opportunity to reunite with her family.


Another rescued victim, 17-year-old Isyaka Ahmed, said he was threatened with death after attempting to escape from the terrorists. He described hunger and physical exhaustion as the greatest challenges they faced, adding that some captives remain in the terrorists' custody. Despite the ordeal, he expressed gratitude for regaining his freedom and returning home.


Receiving the victims on behalf of the Niger State Government, the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Dantoro, described the rescue as a moment of celebration for the emirate. The traditional ruler likened the occasion to a Sallah celebration and expressed appreciation for the safe return of the rescued abductees, while hopes remain high for the release of those still in captivity.
