You are real definition of economic ignorance Atiku replies Tinubu

BY:IBRAHIM SANI ISYAKU

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu after the President described Atiku’s proposal to reintroduce fuel subsidies as a sign of “serious ignorance” about governance and the economy.

In response, Atiku accused Tinubu of mismanaging the economy through the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira without adequate plans to protect Nigerians from rising costs. He argued that these policies led to higher fuel prices, inflation, business struggles, and increased poverty.

Atiku rejected claims that he wants to restore the old subsidy system, saying instead that he supports a targeted, temporary, and transparent support mechanism for domestic fuel production. He also questioned reports of large petroleum-related costs in NNPC accounts, arguing that subsidy-related expenses still appear to exist despite the government's claim that subsidies were removed.

The former Vice President further criticized Tinubu's argument that subsidy removal has increased revenue allocations to states, saying it is wrong to improve government finances at the expense of ordinary Nigerians who are facing higher living costs.

The exchange highlights the growing political and economic debate ahead of the 2027 elections, with both leaders defending their approaches to Nigeria's fuel subsidy policy and economic management.
