Tension Emerges Among Kano Governor Abba Yusuf’s Aides

Political tension has reportedly emerged among some aides of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following a public exchange between APC youth leader Salisu Yahaya Hotoro and Amir Abdullahi Kima, who represents the interests of officials serving as Senior Reporters (SR) and Special Senior Reporters (SSR) in the state government.

The disagreement comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. In an audio recording shared on Facebook by Siyasarmu, Hotoro was heard criticising some government aides, accusing them of failing to adequately defend Governor Abba Yusuf against attacks from opposition figures. He questioned their approach, alleging that they relied on official procedures while allowing critics to target the governor without a strong response.

Hotoro’s remarks reportedly angered some SR and SSR officials, particularly after he allegedly described them as lacking sound judgement and intelligence. In response, Amir Abdullahi Kima defended the officials, explaining that they had been instructed by the Secretary to the State Government to seek the governor’s approval before undertaking certain activities.

Kima maintained that the officials were committed to protecting the governor’s image and supporting his administration. He accused some individuals within the political establishment of opposing them despite their efforts to support Abba Yusuf. He also referred to legal disputes involving Abdullahi Abbas and Faizu Alfindiki, claiming that members of his group had funded their legal efforts when some government aides were not supporting them.

Kima further insisted that the group was not afraid of criticism and remained fully committed to the governor. He said they had previously avoided responding to such comments to prevent internal disagreements from undermining the administration’s political interests. He also stated that members of the group sometimes used their personal resources to support people and promote the governor’s political success.

Meanwhile, a subsequent post on Hotoro’s Facebook page appeared to call for reconciliation. In the post, he urged those involved to forgive one another and put aside their differences, while praying for victory for the APC in the forthcoming elections. His message read: “Please, everyone should forgive one another and put down their swords. May Almighty Allah grant us victory.”
