US Urges Israel to Stop Attacks in the West Bank

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington has urged Israel to address attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.


Speaking to journalists, Rubio described footage showing an American journalist being assaulted on Friday as disturbing, adding that such incidents do not portray Israel in a positive light.


His comments followed a statement by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, who described the attack on Heidi Levin as “abhorrent and an act of terrorism.”


Levin was reportedly attacked while covering assaults by Israeli settlers against Palestinians harvesting olives in the West Bank.


Meanwhile, a group of European diplomats visiting the occupied West Bank also came under attack on Saturday, raising further concerns over the security situation in the territory.

The clash occurred around the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday. Residents said the bandits, numbering about 240 and travelling on over 200 motorcycles, moved from Sangeko Gap in Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State before entering Kebbi.
